Bernice E. Cox, a retired university secretary, died Friday of renal failure at Charlestown Retirement Community. The former Stoneleigh resident was 84.
Born in Steubenville, Ohio, Bernice Klemm was raised in Dundalk and was a 1935 graduate of Sparrows Point High School. She earned a diploma in secretarial skills at the old Strayer Bryant Business School in Baltimore.
For more than 25 years she was a secretary in the library and graduate school offices of what is now Towson University. She retired in 1978.
Family members said she was an avid bridge player and took cruises in Asia, Europe, Hawaii and the Caribbean.
Plans for a memorial service are incomplete.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Louis T. Cox Jr., a retired Towson University physics professor; a son, L. Thomas Cox of Monkton; a daughter, Patricia L. Borowy of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Bernard Klemm of Dundalk; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
