Lane closures scheduled for Towson project

July 11, 2003|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Temporary lane closures will begin next week as part of a $2.4 million project to widen the intersection of Charles Street and Towsontown Boulevard, a state transportation official said yesterday.

Construction crews will add a second left-turn lane along southbound Charles Street and a second right-turn lane along eastbound Towsontown Boulevard, said Fran Ward, a spokeswoman for the State Highway Administration.

Other improvements include:

* A new traffic signal at the intersection.

* Widening both sides of Towsontown and northbound Charles near the intersection.

* A new sidewalk along northbound Charles Street from Greater Baltimore Medical Center to Towsontown Boulevard, and along eastbound Towsontown to about 200 feet before the new entrance to the Gil- christ Center for Hospice Care.

Temporary lane closures may occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Fridays to Sundays, Ward said.
