Finksburg Planning Area Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sandymount United Methodist Church.
The county commissioners are expected to attend. Topics will include the Finksburg corridor and gateway, and road improvements.
All Finksburg-area residents, business owners and their families and friends are welcome.

Zion United Methodist plans Sunday school picnic
Zion United Methodist Church of Shipley will hold its 121st annual Sunday school picnic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 12 at the church.
The day will feature a craft and flea market, musical entertainment and children's games. Fried chicken platters and other food will be available starting at 11 a.m.
Flea market and craft vendors are needed. Spaces are $10 for a 12-foot-by-12-foot area, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Franklin the Turtle to visit Westminster library branch
Westminster library branch, 50 E. Main St., will offer:
Family Story Time for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, 1 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. Saturday on "Going Buggy."
Scholastic Book Fair will be held this week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Proceeds will benefit children's services.
"Live and In Person" will feature Franklin the Turtle for all ages at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. today and tomorrow. Cameras are welcome.
"Pizza Hut Library Fund-raiser" from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Westminster Pizza Hut. Franklin the Turtle will visit from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The library has coupons to use at Pizza Hut to earn 20 percent of sales for children's and young adults programs.
"All Together Story Time - Going Buggy" at 11 a.m. Friday for all ages (age 3 and younger with an adult)
"The Magic of Roger Lindsay" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. June 30. Lindsay, Prop and the Magic Bunny will perform feats of magic, illusion and surprises. Tickets are required and may be picked up from the library starting one week before the show.
Book Discussion Club for adults at 6:30 p.m. July 2 to discuss The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver.

Fire Department selling bricks to pay mortgage
Westminster Volunteer Fire Department is continuing its "Buy a Brick" Campaign to help pay the mortgage on its firehouse on John Street.
Bricks cost $100 and will be engraved with a brass plate for the foyer between the firehouse and its museum. Inscriptions can honor or memorialize loved ones. Donations are tax deductible.

Westminster man earns degree from Champlain
Michael R. Hecht of Westminster has been awarded a bachelor's degree in hotel-restaurant management from Champlain University in Burlington, Vt.
He is a graduate of Sandy Spring Friends School. He is the son of Michael and Helen Hecht.
First-grader at Friendship is winner in poster contest
Jordan Binder, a first-grade pupil at Friendship Valley Elementary School, recently was a winner in the Maryland Council on Economic Education's poster contest.
As one of 16 winners from 1,700 entries statewide, she won a $50 savings bond and crystal apple for her poster depicting a girl riding a bike and a girl planting a tree. Her poster will appear in the council's calendar.
Jordan is the daughter of Jonathan and Melissa Binder of Westminster.
