Maryland Renaissance Festival: Return to medieval times at this popular event, held Aug. 23-24 and 30-31 from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival is held off Crownsville Road, in Crownsville, just outside of Annapolis. Parking for the disabled is available next to the Main Gate. Visitors can see a fire-eater, jugglers and magicians; watch authentic jousting in full armor; and listen to music and choral groups. Maryland Seafood Festival: The Maryland Seafood Festival, an annual event to help charitable organizations raise money, features plenty of family activities, local seafood, information about the Chesapeake Bay and other activities. FOR THE RECORD - An item in Sunday's Anne Arundel Hometown Guide incorrectly reported that the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra planned to hold a pre-fourth of July concert at Anne Arundel Community College. The annual concert has been discontinued for financial reasons.

Scottish games: Soak up the culture of old Scotland at the Anne Arundel Scottish Highland Games, sponsored by Anne Arundel Scottish Festival Inc. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 11. The event will feature Scottish dogs, highland cattle, Clydesdale horses and a sheepdog exhibition. Music will be provided, and police and fire employees will take part in a tug of war. 34th Annual Sailboat Show: This popular show, held Oct. 9 to 13 at the Annapolis City Dock and Harbor, features new racing and cruising sailboats from U.S. and foreign builders, the world's largest multihull display, smaller boats and seminars. The show starts at 10 a.m. each day.
32nd Annual Powerboat Show: The city's powerboat show is held the next weekend, Oct. 16-19, at Annapolis City Dock and Harbor. Come see luxurious motor yachts, trawlers, high-speed, high-performance boats and offshore fishing machines, as well as cruisers, center consoles and tenders. Boating products, services and equipment are also for sale.
Halloween Happening: A Haunted Barn and Hay Ride will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 17-19, 24-26, and 30-31 at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, Crownsville. Admission is $8 per person; Children ages 5 and younger free. 410-923-3400.
