The Week's Best

THE WEEK'S BEST

June 19, 2003

SCENE

Open-mike events, which are happening in different atmospheres all over the city nearly every week, are the front line for the poetry revolution.

EATS

Yin Yankee's fresh and tasty seafood comes with high prices, but the creative flavors and a dollop of humor make it worth the money. Waitress Nina Tukarski shows off the special of the day: seared sea scallops, littleneck clams and black tiger prawns with sticky rice noodles in a coconut curry sauce.

CDs

Annie Lennox's new album, Bare, delivers songs that inspire such superlatives as "best" and "most gripping." "Pavement Cracks" was written after the breakup of her marriage, and "Oh God (Prayer)" cries out for someone to listen.

DVDs

Buffy the Vampire Slayer's fourth season comes to DVD, with Sarah Michelle Gellar (above) finding a new boyfriend, dealing with a college roommate from hell (literally) and an undercover operation. The set also includes the critically lauded episode, "Hush."

ART

Louisa Chase's recent work, including this oil work, Bowl of Cherries, is on display at Baltimore's Contemporary Museum. A companion show of Chase's drawings is on view at Goya Girl Press and Contemporary Art.
