Got game? If so, make your way to the Baltimore Convention Center tomorrow and Saturday. The annual Games Day, sponsored by Games Workshop, a producer of tabletop battle games, features gaming events for everyone from beginners to experts.
Participants (or "gamers") can take part in registered games, open gaming, the Games Day tournaments and the Golden Demon Painting Competition. Or visitors can watch Sabertooth Games demonstrations, meet guests from the Games Workshop design studio and attend gaming seminars.
The three most popular games created by Games Workshop are Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of the Rings Battle Game: The Two Towers. All can be played by two or more people.
Warhammer is a game of fantasy battles set in a magical world in which knights and warriors collide, archers send their arrows through the sky, war machines crush anything in their path and heroes on monsters take to combat.
Warhammer 40,000 takes players into the 41st millennium, amid a war-torn universe with futuristic vehicles and warriors with stunning artillery.
The Lord of the Rings Battle Game: The Two Towers, a tabletop strategy game, relives the adventures of The Two Towers film and novel.
Visitors to Games Day will have the opportunity to get a sneak preview of the latest Lord of the Rings game, based on The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the final installment of the film trilogy.
This is the 11th annual Games Day convention. More than 5,000 gamers are expected to participate in battle games at the Convention Center.
Games Workshop was started 30 years ago in the United Kingdom and currently operates more than 250 retail stores worldwide, including 30 locations in the United States. Its North American headquarters is in Glen Burnie.
Games Day takes place from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Baltimore Convention Center, 1 W. Pratt St. Tickets are $25 for both days. A free "Runtherd Pass" will be available for parents or guardians wishing to attend Games Day without playing any games or taking part in any events but needing to accompany their children.
