Three injured in three-vehicle accident

A Carroll County volunteer fire company's sport utility vehicle slammed into the back of a pickup truck on Route 32 in Gamber yesterday, starting a three-car accident that sent three people to the hospital with injuries, Maryland State Police said.

The Chevrolet pickup had stopped to turn left on Klee Mill Road when the fire vehicle, a Chevrolet Suburban, struck it about 11 a.m., said Trooper Robert Mondor. The impact sent the pickup into the northbound lane where it struck a Buick. The Buick then careened into a nearby parking lot.

The occupants of the Buick, Westminster residents Anthony Colodonato, 59, and Arlene Colodonato, 52, were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center for precautionary reasons, Mondor said. Anthony Colodonato was released, and Arlene Colodonato was in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The driver of the fire vehicle, whom Mondor would not name, was taken to Carroll County General Hospital with minor injuries. The pickup driver was not seriously hurt, police said.
