This year's Easter egg hunt is over, but not for the DVD fanatic. Here are a few Easter eggs hidden on your favorite DVDs.
Remember, these have not been laboratory-tested - they are reports from the field by die-hard fans, and a few favorites from Netflix film critic James Rocchi.
The Ring: To play an extended version of the videotape, highlight Play on the menu, hit the Up button on your remote, then Select.
Memento: Special Limited Edition: To watch this movie-in-reverse in chronological order, select Special Features from the main menu of the second disc. Select the clock from the group of pictures, then answer "C" to the next five questions. On the sixth, order the pictures 3-4-1-2 and hit Enter.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit: Several eggs here. Try this one: On the second DVD's main menu, select "Valiant Files." Once in Eddie's office, you can navigate with a magnifying glass. Depending on what item you select, you'll see anything from a still gallery to a bonus animation. Also, click on the drawer on the upper right side of the safe, then select the piece of paper when the drawer opens. That gives the combination to the safe. Select the safe, then enter the combination for a surprise.
Red Dragon: Director's Edition: To hear from Hannibal Lecter, hit the left button from the main menu on the second disc. After the screen freezes momentarily, Hannibal speaks.
The Royal Tenenbaums: For an introduction from Ben Stiller, select "The Criterion Collection" from the menu of the second disc. Point the arrow toward "The Criterion Collection," then hit Enter.
Six Feet Under: Season 1: A minor one. From the main menu of either disc, hit the Episode Index, then the Up button. Hit Enter on the highlighted HBO logo for the DVD production credits.
I Spy: To hear Eddie Murphy on trash-talking boxers, start at Special Features on the main menu. Highlight Featurettes, then hit the left button twice. When you see the motorcycle headlight highlighted, hit Enter and see the "Trash Talk" clip.
Spider-Man: Spider-Man doing aerobics? Find the gag on the first DVD of this set. Select Special Features, then Commentaries. Move the arrow to the Special Features entry on the Commentaries page, then hit the left button to highlight a Spider-Man symbol. Press Enter to start the three-minute gag reel.
Barbershop: Select Special Features on the main menu, then press the up button over "more" at the bottom. Now press Enter over the highlighted post on the wall. It leads to an interview with Sean Patrick Thomas.
The Godfather Collection: To see James Caan's impression of Marlon Brando, select Santino's from the Family Tree on the bonus disc (No. 5). Select Sonny, which produces Santino Corleone's biography, then highlight the photo of the adult Sonny. Highlight Caan's head, then press Enter. Then Caan does his best Brando impression, circa On the Waterfront, during his Godfather screen test.
Jonah - A VeggieTales Movie: One for the kids. To hear Khalil's motivational tapes, select the "Misc." option on Disc 2, highlight "Billy Joe McGuffrey" and hit the left button. Select the highlighted bowling ball over the guitar.
