Johns Hopkins vs. Virginia

When Virginia has the ball

The Cavaliers closely resemble Hopkins in the balance game. Virginia rolled to a 14-4 victory over a strong Maryland defense to get here, and did it without getting a point from sophomore attackman John Christmas (leading goal scorer) or senior midfielder Chris Rotelli (Player of the Year nominee). Like Hopkins, Virginia is just as comfortable in a settled game as it is in transition, although the Cavaliers probably would prefer to run a bit more than the Blue Jays. Rotelli and attackmen Joe Yevoli and Matt Ward are excellent passers, while Ward and Rotelli are great dodgers and fine shooters on the run. Virginia also loves to get midfielder A.J. Shannon isolated on a short-stick defender. Shannon's blistering outside shot reminds one of Doneger's. Seven players have scored at least 23 goals.
