Public hearing tonight on county's budget proposal

A public hearing on the county's proposed budget will be held at 7:30 tonight at the Scott Center of Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster.

The three county commissioners and the county's budget director will take comments and answer questions on a proposed $244.7 million budget that includes increases in the personal income tax and home recordation tax, plus money for two new schools and a new senior center.

Jaime Jezovnik named Carroll teacher of the year

An elementary school special education instructor has been named Carroll County Teacher of the Year.

Jaime M. Jezovnik, a six-year educator, works with third- and fourth-graders at Robert Moton Elementary in Westminster. Each year, the county's teacher of the year represents Carroll County teachers in the Maryland awards program and, if selected, the national contest.

Jezovnik graduated from Goucher College in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. She later received a master's equivalency in special education from Fayetteville State University and the University of North Carolina.
