Despite the torrential downpours, more than a hundred volunteers gathered for the recent fourth annual Lower Susquehanna Greenway River Sweep on April 26.
Teams of volunteers collected several tons of trash at four locations in Harford County and Cecil County sides of the river.
The sites included the Lower Susquehanna Greenway Office near Conowingo, in Port Deposit at the marina park, in Perryville at the boat ramp and community park, and in Havre De Grace at Tidings Park.
The River Sweep, is an annual effort to sweep the banks of the Susquehanna River clean of litter and debris. "It was very successful - anytime you get volunteers on a horrible day to beautify the area, it is a success," said Mary Ann Lisanti, executive director of the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway.
