Baltimore County police were searching yesterday for the Jeep Cherokee Laredo that belonged to a Woodlawn man found dead Monday night from a gunshot wound to his head.

Warren R. Lewis, 28, of the 7300 block of Maury Road was found dead on a trail in Hillcrest Park at the edge of the Lansdowne High School campus, said Officer Shawn Vinson, a county police spokesman.

Police had not identified a suspect or motive in the shooting yesterday, but said that Lewis' sport utility vehicle with Maryland tags 499794 was missing.

Wilkens Precinct officers - responding to a 911 call about 10:30 p.m. reporting shots fired in the wooded public park - found Lewis lying in a pool of blood on a trail near Third Avenue.

The shooting is the second homicide to be reported in as many days in Baltimore County, and the 11th this year - compared with six at the same time last year, according to police statistics.

Arrests have been made in nine of this year's slayings, police said.
