Mary F.B. McKee, 87, Howard real estate agent

April 28, 2003

Mary Florence Butler McKee, a former real estate agent in Howard County, died Friday at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Columbia. The Ellicott City resident was 87.

Born in Bishop, Texas, she was raised in Lockhart, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.

After college she moved to California, where she met Robert Wilson McKee. She was working as a secretary at the Naval Air Station in Terminal Island, near Long Beach, and he was a naval aviator. They were married on March 1, 1946.

They moved to Maryland in about 1960 so Mr. McKee could work at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. Two years later, they moved to Catonsville and then to Howard County. While looking for a house in Howard County, Mrs. McKee became interested in the real estate business.

She worked as a part-time agent until her only child, Robert Butler McKee, left for the University of Virginia in 1965. After about 20 years as an agent for several firms -- sometimes full-time -- she retired.

For nearly 40 years, she and her husband lived in Ellicott City.

Mrs. McKee enjoyed golfing, solving crossword puzzles and playing the piano.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Road in Ellicott City.

In addition to her husband and her son, who lives in Charlottesville, Va., Mrs. McKee is survived by two granddaughters.
