The 10th-ranked Mount St. Joseph lacrosse team built a 6-2 halftime lead and held on to beat No. 1 Boys' Latin, 8-7, yesterday.
Visiting Mount St. Joseph (6-5) got two goals each from Ben Mundorf, Brian Gargan and Patrick Wyatt. Tom Scherr made 14 saves.
"Hopefully this gives us some confidence, because we have some inexperienced players, especially on offense," said fifth-year Gaels coach Tony Brockmeyer, who has been at the school for 10 years and "can't remember beating [Boys' Latin]."
Drew Peace led Boys' Latin (11-2) with three goals.
