City man arrested on assault, drug charges after police chase

Police chased a motorist from Brooklyn Park through Baltimore and into Baltimore County yesterday morning before stopping him and discovering that he was wanted in an assault on an officer last month, state police said.

A state trooper from the Glen Burnie barracks stopped a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville at Church Street and Liberty Terrace just before 2 a.m. because the car's tag light was not working, police said. Initially, the driver complied with the officer's orders but then got in his car, rammed the patrol car and drove off, according to police accounts.

Baltimore city and county police joined the pursuit, which ended at Frederick Road and Hilton Avenue in Catonsville when officers forced the driver to stop by blocking his path with their patrol cars, said Maj. Greg Shipley, a state police spokesman. No one was injured.

Police said the driver, identified as Bryant Peter Wallace, 30, of the 2700 block of Gatehouse Road in West Baltimore, is wanted in an assault last month on an Anne Arundel County police officer. Wallace also had been named in a warrant charging him with drug trafficking and firearms violations.

He was charged yesterday with first-degree assault and drug violations, according to court records.
