Aaron J. Steltz, 84, paint firm plant manager

Aaron J. Steltz, a retired paint company plant manager, died of a stroke Saturday at Stella Maris Hospice at Mercy Medical Center. The South Baltimore resident was 84.

Mr. Steltz retired in 1984 as plant manager of the old H.B. Davis Paint Co. on Bayard Street. He earlier had been a paint chemist at the Southwest Baltimore plant.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Woodbury, N.J., he served in the Army during World War II as a radio operator. He participated in campaigns in northern France, the Ardennes and the Rhineland.

After moving to Baltimore in the 1940s, he attended the Johns Hopkins University and studied chemistry, math and science.

Mr. Steltz was a member of the Glen Burnie Moose, Pythagoras Lodge No. 123 of the Masons and Boumi Temple Shrine.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church, 701 S. Charles St., where Mr. Steltz was a member.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, the former DeVera Schivers; a daughter, Sharon Lynn VanDyke of Baltimore; and a grandson.
