N. Arundel Hospital receives laboratory accreditation

North Arundel Hospital's laboratory has been awarded a two-year accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists.

The laboratory is inspected every two years. The College of American Pathologists is an organization of more than 15,000 physicians and laboratory technicians.

MedStar Research wins five-year NIH contract

MedStar Research Institute and the National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Aging recently signed a five-year contract for MedStar to provide research support services for the clinical research program of the Institute on Aging at its recently opened clinical center unit at Harbor Hospital.

The contract is MedStar's largest with any government agency and calls for the research arm of Harbor Hospital's parent organization, MedStar Health, to provide research support services.

County offers grants to run model programs

The county Health Department's Prevention Services Program is seeking community organizations to apply for grants to implement model programs approved by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. The programs include: Across Ages, Positive Action, Project Alert, Second Step and Strengthening Families.

The department will hold a preapplication workshop from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday in Conference Room B, Health Services Building, Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis.

Applications must be postmarked or delivered by hand no later than 5 p.m. May 30 to the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, Prevention Services, 407 S. Crain Highway, second floor, Suite B, Glen Burnie 21061. Applications by fax will not be accepted. Information: 410-222-6742.
