Rev. Henry O'Meara, 86, served Arundel parishes

The Rev. Henry R. O'Meara, a Redemptorist Roman Catholic priest for nearly 60 years who served at Anne Arundel County parishes, died of a stroke April 15 at the Spa Creek Center, Genesis Eldercare Network. He was 86.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he attended St. Mary's Seminary in North East, Pa., and was ordained a Redemptorist priest June 20, 1943, at St. Alphonsus Seminary in Esopus, N.Y.

For the past 23 years, he served at Our Lady of Sorrows in Owensville, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Edgewater and at the Fort Meade chapel. Earlier in his career he was a Brazilian missionary.

In 1987, he was one of the founders of Follow Me Inc., an Annapolis charity whose funds benefit the Sister Dulce Charitable Foundation, which contributed to a hospital, a home for the aged and an orphanage in Rio de Janeiro.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Mary's Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis.

Survivors include a brother, Robert O'Meara of Beltsville; a sister, Margaret Dolmetsh of Sun City, Calif.; five nieces; and two nephews.
