Robert Matkins Sr., a supervisor for the sheet metal shop of the U.S. Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, died of a heart attack Tuesday at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The Dundalk resident was 53.

He was born in Baltimore and attended Baltimore public schools.

In 1978, he married the former Patricia Quire and moved with her to Dundalk.

He joined the Coast Guard in 1973 and served as a ship repairman. In the late 1990s, he was promoted to supervisor at the sheet metal shop.
