METS: Recalled P Jason Middlebrook from Triple-A Norfolk. Optioned IF-OF Joe McEwing to Norfolk.

PADRES: Placed C Gary Bennett on 15-day DL with sprained right knee. Recalled C Michael Rivera from Triple-A Portland.

RANGERS: Placed OF Doug Glanville on 15-day DL, retroactive to Tuesday, with strained right hamstring. Activated OF Kevin Mench.

RAPTORS: Announced they reached mutual agreement with Lenny Wilkens to end his coaching tenure.

College

NCAA: Placed Arkansas on three years' probation and reduced football scholarships by two for violations within its athletic programs.

ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE: Announced that following Maryland players were named to 2003 All-ACC men's lacrosse team: Senior D Michael Howley, senior M Mike Mollot, senior M Ryan Moran and junior D Chris Passavia. Players from other schools included North Carolina sophomore A Jed Prossner (McDonogh) and Virginia junior G Tillman Johnson (St. Mary's).

SOUTH FLORIDA: Named Robert McCullum men's basketball coach. McCullum resigned from Western Michigan.
