Carroll to add security fence at its airport

April 18, 2003|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Carroll County will tighten security at its regional airport with the addition of 12,000 feet of chain-link fence topped with barbed wire.

The commissioners approved a $66,400 contract yesterday that will pay Delta Airport Consultants to design the 12-foot-high fence for the Carroll County Regional Airport outside Westminster. Once the Richmond, Va., company completes the design work, the project, estimated to cost as much as $500,000, will go out to bid.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which has tied such work to homeland security, is expected to reimburse Carroll for most costs, officials said.
