Senior midfielder Joe Matta's unassisted goal with 2:08 remaining lifted No. 18 Lynchburg to a 13-12 upset over No. 1 Salisbury yesterday, handing the host Sea Gulls their first loss of the year.
Junior Kevin Reinecke and sophomore Billy McCulloch led Lynchburg (8-3) with four goals apiece, and Scott Simmons had four to pace Salisbury.
The Sea Gulls (10-1) had three chances to tie the game after Matta's go-ahead goal, but Lynchburg goalie Nick Braun (18 saves) made three saves in the final 1:32 to seal the win.
Salisbury (10-1) closed the third quarter with three straight goals, including two by senior Josh Bergey (three goals) to pull to within one at 10-9. Junior Cory O'Neil then tied the score with an extra-man goal early in the fourth.

Franklin & Marshall 13, McDaniel 6: The Diplomats (6-3, 3-1 Centennial Conference) opened the second half with a 5-0 run to thump the Green Terror (3-6, 2-3) in Lancaster, Pa.
Catholic 13, Frostburg State 10: Page Macey's six goals weren't enough to get the visiting Bobcats (4-4) past the Cardinals (3-8).
