An Owen Brown man, accused of killing his poodle by throwing it against a wall, has been charged with two crimes, Howard County police said yesterday.

Kharl Ervite Bocala, 28, of the 6400 block of Waveland Way, was charged Wednesday with unlawfully inflicting unnecessary suffering on an animal in his custody and aggravated cruelty to an animal. Police said the 6-pound dog was hurled against a wall March 31 after it urinated on a carpet.

Bocala's wife took the dog to the Emergency Veterinarian Clinic in Catonsville shortly after the incident. The animal was pronounced dead on arrival.

A necropsy revealed that the dog had severe bruising on the brain, behind the eyes and on its spinal cord, indicating it had been thrown against a wall, police said.

Bocala was not assigned bond and remains free awaiting trial, scheduled for June 12.
