Red Sox update

Boston won three of four games at Tampa Bay this week and would have had the sweep were it not for a complete bullpen meltdown on Opening Day. After deciding against re-signing closer Ugueth Urbina this past offseason, the Red Sox are using a closer-by-committee approach, and it quickly backfired. Boston's bullpen allowed eight runs in its first four innings of work. But things have since settled down. Over the past 15 2/3 innings, the bullpen has allowed just two earned runs. The Orioles had purposely set their rotation with Ponson and Johnson at the back so they didn't have to bump up against everyone else's top starters. In his first start of the season, Johnson still finds himself facing Martinez, who tossed seven innings without allowing an earned run on Opening Day.
