Pumpkin presents musical `Emperor'

BEST BETS

On Stage

April 03, 2003|By J. Wynn Rousuck

Ah, vanity! Hans Christian Andersen satirized the vice in his fairy tale The Emperor's New Clothes, and Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy made it something to sing about in their musical version of the tale, which will make its Maryland debut at Pumpkin Theatre this weekend.

Roger Schulman plays the preening monarch, Tiffany Walker Porta is his wife, and Shawn Doyle and Dana Whipkey are the con men who pull the wool over the emperor's eyes (without adding a stitch of it to his wardrobe). Direction and choreography are by Todd Pearthree.

Pumpkin Theatre performs at the Hannah More Arts Center at St. Timothy's School for Girls, 8400 Greenspring Ave., Stevenson. Show times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, through April 13. Tickets are $10. For more information, call 410-828-1814.
