WINE OF THE WEEK

April 02, 2003|By Michael Dresser

2000 Geyser Peak Merlot, Sonoma County ($17). This highly aromatic, well-structured and soft-textured merlot is one of California's best examples of this varietal in the $15-$20 price range. It's a medium- to full-bodied red wine with hints of black cherry, chocolate and mint. What's especially encouraging is that it's an elegant merlot that's clearly distinct from cabernet sauvignon. Serve with beef, lamb or roast chicken.
