CARDINALS: Optioned OF So Taguchi to Triple-A Memphis. Purchased contract of P Kiko Calero from Memphis.

GIANTS: Placed P Robb Nen on 15-day DL. Recalled P Jim Brower from Triple-A Fresno.

INDIANS: Received P Mike Fyhrie from Phillies as player to be named in Wendell Magee Jr. trade of March 26 and assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

ROCKIES: Named Charles Monfort chairman and chief executive officer.

TIGERS: Purchased contracts of P Jeremy Bonderman from Single-A Lakeland and C Matt Walbeck from Triple-A Toledo. Placed P Danny Patterson on 15-day DL with sore right elbow.

WHITE SOX: The board that owns and operates Comiskey Park approved the venue's name change to U.S. Cellular Field.

NETS: Signed F Donny Marshall for remainder of season and placed him on injured list with strained right groin. Activated G Tamar Slay.

NORTHEAST CONFERENCE: Named Mount St. Mary's Kirby Day women's lacrosse Rookie of the Week.

BOWIE STATE: Announced that men's basketball coach Luke D'Alessio has been named National Association of Basketball Coaches South Atlantic Coach of Year. Announced that F Tim Washington has been named to NABC South Atlantic Region first team, an NABC third-team All-American and an NCAA Division II second-team All-American. Announced that Jon Smith has been named to South Atlantic Region second team.

MASSACHUSETTS: Announced that G Michael Lasme has chosen to transfer at end of spring semester.

MICHIGAN TECH: Reinstated football for the 2003 season.

TEXAS A&M: Named Gary Blair women's basketball coach.

WISCONSIN: Named Lisa Stone women's basketball coach.

BILLS: Agreed to terms with FB Sam Gash, who had been with Ravens.

BUCCANEERS: Re-signed T Roman Oben to four-year contract. Signed QB Jim Miller, who had been with Bears, to one-year contract.

DOLPHINS: Signed free-agent DT Jeff Zgonina to a four-year contract.

49ERS: Signed DE Dwayne Missouri.

REDSKINS: Re-signed G Wilbert Brown and G Alex Sulfsted. Traded OL David Brandt to Packers for 2004 conditional seventh-round draft pick.

Hockey

NHL: Named Thrashers RW Dany Heatley Player of the Week. Suspended Red Wings assistant coach Joey Kocur for two games for throwing chair on ice in the final minute Saturday against St. Louis. Fined Blues coach Joel Quenneville $5,000 for putting all of his tougher players on the ice with one minute left in game. Fined Blues $25,000.
