Chambers sponsoring trade show April 8 at Laurel track

The Baltimore-Washington Chamber of Commerce and the Howard County Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor Business 2003, a trade show, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 8 in the Carriage Ballroom at Laurel Park racetrack.

Businesses interested in exhibiting should call Arlinda Andrews, 301-725-4000. Admission is free for visitors who show a business card; $5 without a business card.

A networking breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Turf Club at the racetrack. Reservations are required. The cost is $20 for chamber members; $30 for nonmembers.

Nominations being sought for EPA business awards

Nominations are sought for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's fifth Energy Star for Small Business Awards.

The award recognizes small businesses and organizations that have created innovative ways to cut costs through efficient use of energy.

The businesses or organizations must have a facility of 100,000 square feet or less and must not be in the energy equipment industry.

Nominations must be submitted by April 22.

Columbia man opens Alphagraphics franchise

David Kelley of Columbia has opened an Alphagraphics Inc. franchise in Columbia and will hold a grand opening for his new business Thursday.

Alphagraphics Inc., based in Salt Lake City, is a provider of graphic design, offset printing and digital publishing services for businesses.

The company has more than 350 franchises in North and South America, Asia and Europe.

Volunteers-paid staff link to be luncheon focus

Barbara Swann, director of volunteers at Howard County General Hospital, will discuss the interaction of volunteers and paid staff in the workplace at a bag luncheon sponsored by the Howard County Association of Volunteer Administrators.

The meeting will be held at noon April 10 at Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia.

Admission is free for members; $5 for nonmembers.
