The nine-member state wrestling committee unanimously voted yesterday for a proposal that would allow for a full, double-elimination tournament should the move pass a vote by a Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association committee next month in Ocean City.

Should the proposal receive a nod from the MPSSAA's Board of Control at its April 27 meeting, the revised tournament would go into effect for the 2003-2004 season and would mark an unprecedented move by the state association.

"A major concern was time, but the committee members drafted a schedule that would allow the tournament to be run in the same time frame as in previous years," said Overlea athletic director Bruce Malinowski, a member of the wrestling committee.

Malinowski listed possible relocation sites for the tournament as the University of Maryland's Cole Field House, Morgan State's Hill Field House and the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury.
