Charlotte L. Payne, administrative assistant for a state agency and active member of Fulton Baptist Church, died Wednesday of unknown causes. She was 45.
Miss Payne was born in Baltimore and raised in the Sandtown-Winchester community. She was a 1975 graduate of Dunbar High School and attended Coppin State College.
For five years, Miss Payne worked for the state Department of Children, Youth and Family Services. Earlier, she had been an administrative assistant for Mercantile Bank and the Department of Juvenile Services.
She enjoyed taking bus trips and visiting Atlantic City casinos. She also liked reading romance novels and playing cards.
An alto, Miss Payne sang in the choir at Fulton Baptist, 1620 W. North Ave., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday.
Survivors include her mother, Bernice Payne-Gray; three brothers, Ronald Gray, Arnold Payne and Anthony Payne; and three sisters, Dorothy McMichael, Brenda Curry and Justine Payne. All are of Baltimore.
