Tai Sophia's Roy receives honor from emperor of Japan

Rustum Roy, a member of the board of trustees of the Tai Sophia Institute for the Healing Arts in North Laurel, was honored Nov. 3 by the emperor of Japan with the Order of the Rising Sun with Gold Rays and Neck Ribbon, the Japanese equivalent of knighthood.

The next day, Roy, a professor emeritus at Pennsylvania State University, was inducted into the Russian Academy of Sciences at the Russian Embassy in Washington. He is one of three Americans to receive the honor in the past three years.

Sherman L. Cohn, a member of the faculty of Georgetown University's School of Law and a member of Tai Sophia's Board of Overseers, was invited to serve on the National Institute of Medicine's Committee on the Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine by the American Public.

The committee will issue a final report next year.

Sales Focus names Shapiro a managing partner

Dr. Roy P. Shapiro has been named managing partner of the West Coast office of Sales Focus Inc.

He will oversee strategic planning and sales expansion for the sales outsourcing company, whose president, Anthony Horwath, lives in Woodbine.

Sales Focus, which provides a range of services from sales consulting to professional sales training, recently moved from Columbia to Owings Mills.
