A Grasonville man died yesterday afternoon while working on his boat at a Kent Island marina, Department of Natural Resources police said.

George K. Haddaway, 67, was working on his boat in the rain using an electric grinder when his wife, Roberta "Lorraine" Haddaway, saw him falling over the side of the boat, said DNR spokesman John Surrick.

Mary D. Wallnofer, who lives on a neighboring boat, called Queen Anne's County emergency center, then jumped into the water, where Haddaway was floating facedown and unconscious, Surrick said.

Haddaway was taken by ambulance to Anne Arundel General Hospital, where he was dead on arrival, Surrick said.
