Two victims identified in mobile home fire

BEL AIR -- Two Harford County residents killed yesterday in a mobile home fire were identified by deputy state fire marshals.

Karl Randall Devine, 46, and Sharon Ann Devine, 48, of the 1600 block Schucks Road in Bel Air were in the home, along with Janette Ayers, 73, when the fire broke out in the living room about 6:30 p.m., said Deputy State Fire Marshal Joseph B. Zurolo Jr.

Ayers was able to escape the mobile home without injury, Zurolo said. Autopsies determined the victims died of smoke inhalation, he said, adding that investigators have not determined whether the mobile home was equipped with a working smoke detector. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.

Letter-carrier food drive extended until Tuesday

A Baltimore-area food drive conducted by letter carriers with help from the Boy Scouts is being extended through Tuesday.

Residents are encouraged to leave nonperishable items, such as canned soup or tuna, next to their mailboxes, or take them to their post office. Items left outside of homes will be picked up by letter carriers or Scouts.

The drive, part of the Harvest for the Hungry campaign, had been scheduled to end today. Last year, 140,000 pounds of food were collected.
