CARDINALS: Optioned P Mike Crudale and C Javier Molina to Triple-A Memphis. Assigned IF Kurt Abbott and P Kevin Ohme to their minor-league camp.

CUBS: Optioned IF David Kelton to Triple-A Iowa. Returned P Angel Guzman, P Will Cunnane, C Mike Mahoney, C Keith McDonald and IF Phil Hiatt to their minor-league camp.

MARINERS: Released former Orioles P Norm Charlton.

METS: Assigned C Joe Depastino, C Virgil Chevalier, IF Jose Reyes, P Pedro Feliciano and P Dan Wheeler to their minor-league camp.

CINCINNATI: Named Mike Kolakowski co-defensive coordinator, Scott Pethtel special teams and tight ends coach and Ted Gill defensive line coach. Promoted Phil Dorn to assistant head coach and running backs coach. Promoted Mark Criner to co-defensive coordinator.

GOUCHER: Announced that junior F Kate Guggino was named to the All-Atlantic Region women's basketball second team.

JAMES MADISON: Named Kenny Brooks women's basketball coach, Amos Jones tight ends coach and special teams coordinator and Casey Creechan defensive ends coach. Reassigned Curt Newsome as assistant head football coach and offensive line coach and Eddie Davis as offensive coordinator and quarterack-wide receivers coach.
