Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Catonsville Branch Library, and who better to help the library celebrate than a notable local author.

Award-winning children's book writer Jerdine Nolen will drop by the library tonight to read from her newest book, Plantzilla.

When Mortimer Henryson, the star of Plantzilla, pushes his parents to let him bring home a school plant for the summer, he has no idea what's in store for him or his family. Although the Henrysons' houseguest is just a vine when it arrives, it grows into something beyond any of their imaginations.

Plantzilla is a page-turner for kids of all ages; it's full of colorful illustrations and both hair-raising and hilarious moments.

Nolen, a Baltimore resident, has won numerous awards, including the Smithsonian Magazine Notable Book for Children Award for one of her earlier works, Raising Dragons.

After the reading, she will sign copies of her book. The event begins at 7 tonight at the Catonsville Branch Library, 1100 Frederick Road. 410-887-0951.
