Hinton, Sr., William Jones "Bill"

WILLIAM JONES "BILL" HINTON, SR., 72, of the 100 block of E. Maple Street, died Sunday, March 16, 2003. Mr. Hinton was born April 2, 1930 and was the son of the late Claude and Addie Hudgins Hinton. A life-long resident of Gatesville he served his country honorably in the US Air Force where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. An employee of County Cleaners in Gatesville for many years he came to know and serve many residents of Gates County. He was a member of the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Dept. from 1952 until 1980, was a member of Gatesville United Methodist Church and attended St. Mary's Episcopal Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Glenn Hinton, his step-son, Roy Burton Hall, his siter, Helen Jenkins and his brothers, Arthur and Pugh Hinton. Surviving are two sons, William Jones Hinton, Jr., wife Pat and their children Camilla and Zoe of Louisburg, NC; and Dr. Richard Yarborough Hinton, wife Dr. Endrika Hinton and their children, Ella, Webb, Ada, and Wiatt of Baltimore, MD; a brother, Claude Hinton and wife Jean of Wilmington, NC; a step-daughter-in-law, Jan Hall of Raleigh and her children Seth Hall and Ashley McCarthy and husband Bill. Bill's life of service, humor and insight will continue to be an inspiration to his family, his friends and the Town of Gatesville. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church by Fr. Jim McGee. Burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. in Miller Funeral Home. Following the Service on Wednesday they will greet friends at the home of Willie and Joan Bundy, Main St., Gatesville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Dept. or to a favorite charity.
