A four-alarm fire last night at a Laurel shopping center heavily damaged a supermarket and spread to two adjoining businesses, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said.

The blaze was reported at 8:55 p.m. at Maryland City Plaza Shopping Center in the 3400 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road. The additional alarms were sounded as the blaze extended from the Laurel Shoppers Food Warehouse store to the neighboring Dollar Buys and Total Crafts stores, said Capt. Lee Cornwall, a county Fire Department spokesman.
