3 Overlea students hurt in crash

March 14, 2003|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Three Overlea High School students were injured - one critically - when their car hit a tree in White Marsh while they were driving to school yesterday morning, police said.

The most seriously injured, Ashley Babovsky, 16, of the first block of Guinevere Court in White Marsh, was in critical condition last night at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

She was a passenger in a 1991 Honda Accord driven by a 16-year-old boy who lost control of the car on Babikow Road near Springhouse Circle and hit a tree about 7:30 a.m., said Officer Shawn Vinson, a county police spokesman. The cause of the accident remained under investigation yesterday, he said.

The driver, Zachary Ballweg of the 5100 block of Cynthia Court in Overlea, was released from Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center yesterday afternoon. Babovsky's stepsister, Ashley Bloodsworth, 16, a passenger in the back seat, was in fair condition at the medical center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
