NORFOLK, Va. - Seventh-seeded Drexel made five of six free throws in the final minute to survive a late push by 10th-seeded Towson and claim a 52-46 victory yesterday in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball tournament.

Drexel (12-16) held a 45-34 lead with 5:18 remaining in a rematch of last season's tournament opener. Towson (3-25) then went on a 10-2 run over the next 3:50 to make it a one-possession game at 47-44.

Drexel's Candace Wilkins made one of two free-throw attempts, and then Towson's Mia Chapman drove for a layup to cut the Tigers' deficit to two with 37 seconds left.

With the Tigers forced to foul to save time, Drexel's Steph Frysinger and Wilkins each hit two free throws to seal the win.

Sophomore forward Katrina Martin led the Dragons with 12 points and seven rebounds. Frysinger added 11 points, four rebounds, three steals, and a game-high six assists.

Chapman finished her Towson career by leading all scorers with 15 points and contributed five assists and five rebounds. Kelli Talbot scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three assists for the Tigers.

Both teams struggled from the field, Drexel shooting 35.1 percent, including just 2-for-12 from three-point range. Towson shot 33.3 percent.
