Sister Jean Marie Hastings, 93, nursing director

Sister Jean Marie Hastings, a former nursing director at Baltimore's St. Agnes Hospital, died of congestive heart failure Thursday at Villa St. Michael, her Roman Catholic order's retirement home in Emmitsburg. She was 93.

Born Mary Anna Hastings in Huntington, Ind., she graduated from Lee County High School in Fort Myers, Fla. She entered the Daughters of Charity order in 1934, and was given the name Sister Jean Marie. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing education from Catholic University of America in 1944.

Sister Jean Marie was director of nurses at St. Agnes from 1944 to 1949, and also served at her order's hospitals in the District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.

Her final assignment was at Soldier's Home Hospital in Washington, where she spent 22 years as a nurse. She moved in 1980 to Villa St. Michael, where a funeral Mass was offered Monday.

She is survived by nephews and nieces.
