Edward Janowski, 66, communications technician

Edward Janowski, a retired telecommunications technician, died Thursday of cancer at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The Mayo resident was 66.

He worked for Western Union and GTE and helped install tracking systems at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt. He was also involved in other government and military communications projects. Mr. Janowski retired in 1995.

Born in Baltimore and raised on East Lombard Street in Highlandtown, he was a graduate of Patterson High School.

From 1956 to 1960, he served in the Air Force and was stationed in Greenland.

Mr. Janowski, who enjoyed fishing and crabbing, was a member of Cummings-Behlke American Legion Post 226 in Mayo and the Annapolis Elks Lodge 622 in Edgewater.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. tomorrow at George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.

Mr. Janowski is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Sarah Allen; a son, Michael Janowski of Ventura, Calif.; a daughter, Carol J. Peake of Owings; a brother, Bernard Janowski of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two sisters, Patricia Williams of Pikeville, N.C., and Angela Benson of Pasadena; and four grandchildren.
