A 53-year-old Westminster man was killed after his pickup truck ran off southbound Route 27 south of Westminster and overturned several times, state police at the Westminster barracks said.

John Melvin Leishear of the 200 block of Hook Road was pronounced dead at the accident scene, near Old Westminster Road, the police said. Police said they learned of the accident from a motorist who called at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday to report having seen a damaged vehicle.

The Chevrolet Silverado apparently ran off the southbound shoulder of Route 27, veered back into the lane, then slid sideways down the bank and into a field, where it overturned several times, the police said.
