A Waverly man has been arrested and charged in an accident in which a city police traffic officer was struck by a car Tuesday near the former Memorial Stadium site on 33rd Street.

Michael Anthony Jenkins Jr., 22, of the 600 block of Parkwyrth Ave. was arrested Wednesday in the 1800 block of Walnut Ave. in Dundalk on warrants charging him with reckless endangerment, numerous traffic violations and operating a vehicle with stolen tags, police said.

Police allege that Jenkins was driving a 1994 Mazda Protege west in the 900 block of E. 33rd St. about 5:30 p.m. when he maneuvered around a Maryland Transit Administration bus and struck Officer Michael King, 41, while he was ticketing another motorist for speeding.

King, assigned to the motorcycle unit, was briefly pinned between the two cars. He taken by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was treated for multiple fractures of both legs beneath the knees and admitted in serious condition.

Jenkins remained at the scene after the accident, police said. His arrest was subsequent to an investigation.

Jenkins is being held at Central Booking and Intake Center on $25,000 bail, pending a bail review hearing before a District Court judge.
