The weather claimed another casualty yesterday - Broadneck's run at the Maryland Scholastic Hockey League's Tier II title.

Broadneck's team is recognized by the Anne Arundel County school as a club. Because schools closed early yesterday, all school-sponsored activities were canceled. That evidently included the Broadneck-Sherwood game in the public school championship at Piney Orchard in Odenton.

Since the MSHL has its Tier I and Tier II championship games scheduled for today at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel, the hockey league had to decide which team would advance to meet Wheaton's Good Counsel, the state Tier II private schools champion.

Based on records , the MSHL chose Montgomery County's Sherwood, which had compiled a 10-0 regular-season record; Broadneck was 5-4.

"We have a lot invested in our championship games, so we had to make a decision," said MSHL commisioner Don Gensler.
