Church offers youth event tomorrow

The Amanda Center will sponsor an evening for youth from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. tomorrow at St. Paul's Episcopal Church near Woodbine.

The youth-oriented program will offer pizza, dessert, movies and games. All area middle and high school-aged youth are welcome.

Boy Scout troop seeks food drive donations

Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 460 will hold their annual Scouting for Food drive tomorrow to collect donations for area food banks.

About 60 Scouts and their leaders will leave empty bags at homes in Mount Airy and surrounding areas tomorrow.

Residents are asked to fill the bags with canned, boxed and other nonperishable foods. The bags will be collected March 8.

The Scouts' goal is to collect 3,600 pounds of food for the needy.

Pancake supper offered at church Tuesday

Brandenburg United Methodist Church will hold a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the church hall.

The cost is $5.

Beth Shalom dinner March 7 to mark Shabbat

Beth Shalom Congregation of Carroll County will hold its annual Shabbat Across America dinner at 6:30 p.m. March 7 at the synagogue.

The cost is $18 for adults and $9 for children ages 12 and younger.

Reservations are required. All are welcome.

The synagogue holds weekly Shabbat services at 8 p.m. Fridays.

Mount Airy Players to hold auditions for comedy

The Mount Airy Players will hold open auditions for the Noel Coward comedy Blithe Spirit from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 10 and 11 at St. James Episcopal Church.

The World War II-era play focuses on writer Charles Condomine, whose first wife, Elvira, reappears during a seance. Elvira decides to stay and reconcile with Charles, who has remarried.

Roles are available for two men, ages 35 and older; and four women, one aged 18 or older, one aged 25 or older and three aged 30 and older.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Monologues of less than one minute are welcome, but not required. For those who have never performed with the Players, a photo of any kind would be helpful, but not required.

Technical and set design people also are needed.

Boy Scout parents to hold basket bingo

The parents of Boy Scout Troop 460 of Mount Airy will hold a Longaberger basket bingo March 14 at the South Carroll High School cafeteria.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door for 20 regular games. Two special games and raffles will be held. Prizes include a large Easter basket and back porch basket set.

Snow date is April 11.

The Mount Airy branch library, 705 Ridge Ave., will offer:

Year Round Story Time for all ages (3 and under must be with an adult) at 11 a.m. today on "Pig Tales," 11 a.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday on "Down in the Jungle."

"Foreign Language Story Time" for ages 2 to 6 (children 3 and younger with an adult) at 10 a.m. Monday. Quality Language Programs will introduce this story time told in French, along with related activities.

Beth Shalom Congregation of Carroll County recently elected new officers and trustees for 2003.

Arnold Blaustein is chief operating officer; Steve Salkin is chief executive officer; and Jay Burman is chief financial officer.

Trustees are: Stuart Baker, Manny Eisenstadt, Fred Handelman, Nancy Heasley, Jerry Kunes, Howard Levitas, Kristi Persh and Sheila Pyatt. Trustees-at-large are Rachel Ricklis and Arnold Zalis.

Attorney to the board is Tina DiFranco.
