Arundel schools lift some travel limits

February 28, 2003

Magothy River Middle School pupils left this week on a language-immersion field trip to Quebec, Canada, after Anne Arundel County school officials lifted some of the travel restrictions put in effect two weeks ago because of the nation's high terrorism alert level.

"There was still some concern about traveling to some places, but I think word at that point was out that the alert [level] would go down," schools spokeswoman Jane Beckett-Donohue said yesterday.

Field trips to Washington and New York and those that involve air or ocean travel remain banned, but other excursions were allowed to resume.

Officials said they would review the restrictions at the beginning of each week.
