Jane Katski, 76, principal of Anne Arundel school

Jane Katski, a retired educator who was the principal of a southern Anne Arundel County elementary school, died of a stroke Feb. 20 at Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 76 and had lived in Bozman since 1979.

Born and raised Jane Perry in the southern Arundel community of Tracy's Landing, she graduated from the county's Southern Senior High School in 1942 and earned her bachelor's degree from what is now Bowie State University.

During World War II, she worked as an operator for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. and at the Naval Academy. She began teaching elementary pupils in the late 1940s, and from the 1960s until retiring in 1975 was principal of Carrie Weedon Elementary in Galesville.

After retiring, she and her husband of 59 years, Clayton O. Katski, moved to the town of Allen, where they operated the Wicomico Yacht Yard until selling the business in 1979.

The couple, who had owned two boats, enjoyed sailing and fishing from Maine to the Caribbean.

"She was an accomplished navigator and plotted all of our courses," her husband said yesterday.

Mrs. Katski was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church in St. Michaels.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. March 14 at St. James Episcopal Church in Lothian.

She is also survived by a son, Robert "Butch" Katski of Harwood; a daughter, Susan Jane Lynch of Cohasset, Minn.; and a grandson.
