St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church to feature Captive Free concert Saturday

The Christian youth band Captive Free will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hampstead.

Captive Free, a six-member group, is from Youth Encounter, a Minneapolis-based evangelical Christian organization that sponsors bands that perform at churches, schools, youth events, coffeehouses and nursing homes.

An offering will be collected. The community is welcome.

N. Carroll High to have early dismissals tomorrow

North Carroll High School has announced that students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow for parent conferences, to be held from 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Students must have written permission from their parents or guardians to be dismissed early. Regular afternoon bus transportation will be provided.

The early dismissal and conferences were rescheduled from Feb. 18.

Class, pancake supper part of Lent preparations

Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Manchester will begin preparing for Lent with a religious class and Shrove Tuesday supper.

The Alpha Course, for those who want to know more about Christianity or want to strengthen their faith, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays from March 2 to May 25.

The class will include a light meal, video and discussion on topics such as "Who is Jesus?" and why and how to read the Bible. A weekend retreat for participants will be held April 11 and 12.

The program will conclude with a celebration dinner May 25. Registration is required.

The Youth and Family Committee will hold a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at 6 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a talent show. Tickets are $6 and $3 for children ages 5 to 12.

Comedy hypnotist to perform at school

The North Carroll High School Business Club will sponsor a night of comedy with Skylr the comedy hypnotist at 7:30 p.m. March 6 in the school auditorium.

Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door.

The public is welcome. Audience members will be invited to join Skylr on stage to be hypnotized.

Library to offer quilt class, Dr. Seuss celebration

North Carroll library branch, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will offer:

"Year-round Family Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday and at 10 a.m. every Thursday.

"Read Across America Night - Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss" for all ages at 6:45 p.m. Monday. Stories, music, crafts and surprises will be featured in this celebration of the children's author.

"Landscape Quilt" at 7 p.m. Tuesday for adults. Quilters can learn how to choose the right fabric, embellish quilt designs and get quilting tips. The first class will be an overview, then the next two weeks will feature cutting, assembling and finishing. Registration is required.

"Record-setting Animals" for ages 7 to 10 at 6:45 p.m. March 6. Activities will focus on animals such as the heaviest and fastest.

Book Discussion Group for ages 9 to 12 at 6:45 p.m. March 10 to discuss Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech. Registration is required.
