2000 Morgan Winery Monterey Pinot Noir, Santa

WINE OF THE WEEK

February 26, 2003|By Michael Dresser

2000 Morgan Winery Monterey Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands ($22). This medium-bodied, well-crafted wine offers bright and intense black-cherry fruit. Its finely honed acidity gives it a long finish. It's reasonably true to the Burgundian origins of the grape, but there's a hint of raw fruitiness that shows its California origins. Still, you're not going to easily find as enjoyable a Burgundy at this price. Like most good pinot noirs, this is a very versatile wine, and my matchup with roast turkey breast was a winner.
