Sophomore guard Deon Peters and senior forward Evan Crowther-Washburn scored 16 points each as host Severn defeated John Carroll, 76-62, in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference basketball quarterfinals last night.

The Admirals (17-9) will now hit the road to play in the semifinals against No. 12 St. Paul's (21-4) at 7 tonight.

Defending champion St. Paul's defeated Severn twice in the regular season by scores of 55-37 and 70-57.

Last night, the Admirals led all the way, closing the first half with a 15-4 run to take a 34-18 lead over the Patriots (13-10) at the break.

Severn boosted its margin to 47-24 with about three minutes left in the third period and took a 50-34 lead into the final quarter of what was basically a sloppy game.

"Both of us were hurt by the layoff," said Severn coach Tank Duckett, referring to the effects of last week's snowstorm.

"It was about two weeks for both of us and you could see we didn't have our legs. But loose balls and coming up with easy baskets because our kids always play hard got us the win tonight."
